My name is Athena Xiarhos and I am the proud Owner and Director of Walnut Grove School House. I have a Bachelor's Degree in elementary education, and I am furthering my studies at Bridgewater State College. I have worked with many children and families throughout the years and have over 25 years of experience. Our programs philosophy is based on the concept of developmentally appropriate practices as well as The Department of Education’s Preschool Curriculum Guidelines.
We are committed to providing experiences that will aid in the cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and language development of each and every child. Children are encouraged to learn through exploration, with concern for each child’s developmental needs. Our curriculum is rich with stimulating learning, independent growth, creative activities, which are provided in a manner that is consistent with each child’s age.
Curiosity, exploring and sharing are encouraged as each child’s accomplishments are nurtured and praised. Our educational program is designed to stimulate children’s minds, and provide them with a foundation for learning. We are proud of our location and feel as you pass through the doors of our school you will see, a bright warm loving environment.
Hello, my name is Teresina Bettencourt and I been the lead toddler teacher here at Walnut Grove School House for 10 years. I graduated Bristol Community College with my Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education in 2005. I feel that education is the key to success, because no matter what you aspire to be in life you must have the proper education and skills to accomplish that goal, especially in today’s society. I enjoy working with children of all ages, but I am especially partial to the toddler age group. I have high expectations for the children and I strive to provide the children with various activities to stimulate their curious minds each day.
I am a proud mother of two older boys, who I enjoy spending as much time with as possible. I believe that a strong family bond is very important, because family is the most important thing in a person’s life. I also enjoy reading, cooking, and taking part in various community events.
Hi, my name is Amanda I’m the preschool teacher at Walnut Grove School House. I have been in this field for over ten years, eight of which have been happily spent at Walnut Grove School House. I enjoy spending my free time with my beautiful daughter and my boyfriend. I enjoy taking long walks with them around the beach. Early education and care is the foundation to a successful education throughout life. Learning begins the minute a child enters our facility and continues in many ways throughout the day. I believe that learning is a lifelong process that continues each and every day and is something that no person should ever take for granted.

Hi, my name is Marcus Monteiro and I’m the Prekindergarten teacher here at Walnut Grove School House. I’ve been working at Walnut Grove School House since September of 2016. I graduated from Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational High School in 2010 as a Medical Assistant, but decided after graduation to switch fields. I’ve been in the childcare field for a total of seven years. I’ve had the opportunity to work with all ages from infants up to school-age. I’d have to say that Preschool / Prekindergarten are my favorite age group to work with. This spring I made the decision to enroll into Fisher College to work towards my Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education with the hopes on transferring to Bridgewater State University.
